Discover a country where East meets West, fashionable spas sit side-by-side with village kafeneia and heavenly beaches are backed by rugged mountains. While the coast calls to sunseekers and clubbers, inland is a haven of traditional villages, medieval castles and impressive ancient sites.
Kyrenia or Girni, as the Turkish Cypriots know it, is between the Mediterranean Sea and the Besparmak (five finger) mountains and on the northern side of the area. It is the most popular area for tourists and has a wide range of hotels and holiday villages to suit all tastes, from 5 star luxury to very comfortable self-catering facilities. The town itself has the famous old horseshoe shaped harbour with a host of cafes and restaurants and is overlooked by the seventh century Kyrenia castle. The castle houses a fascinating shipwreck museum. Within a relatively short car drive can be found the ancient castles of St. Hilarian and Buffavento and also Bellapais Abbey which was founded by Augustine monks in the 13th. Century. The terrain is suitable for those fond of walking with many variations of plant life being abundant. The coast line has many coves, very safe and suitable for swimming, but it must be appreciated that a number of beaches are of a rocky nature and great care is needed if the intention is to swim there.
Famagusta or Gazimagusa is on the south-east coast of North Cyprus. The beaches are of golden sand and the resort hotels are of a high standard. The old city surrounded by the ancient walls is popular with the tourists and trips to the Salamis ruins, built circa 1100, and St. Barnabas Monastery should not be missed. All 3 sites are within a short car drive from the hotels featured in our brochure. Trips to Kantara Castle and the Karpas Peninsular (also known as The Panhandle) are recommended. Your representative at the resort will be pleased to help you with guidance or tour arrangements.
